Panel #8 and #9 1950 -1990
The population had grown from 748 in 1956 to 1,114 in 1961, and in 1962 a multi-million-dollar potash mine was established near Esterhazy. This brought further rapid economic and social growth to the community. In the first four years after mine construction had begun, 47 new private homes were built in town. The single level, 3 bedroom bungalow was the norm in housing. Sidewalks, paved streets, running water and sewer systems were commonplace by the 1970’s.
From the70’s to the 90’s housing didn’t change much, but the one car garage was beginning to be popular. The population reached it’s peak and then started to decline during these years. There was little building going on and many young people leaving the Province to look for employment.
