I painted "Awaken" in 2012. It is a large 48" x 72" painting. My feelings for the subject were overwhelming and I just could not express them in a small way. So I found the biggest canvas I had and got to work. Acrylic paint if most familiar to me so of course this was my choice of medium as I was confident I could achieve the feel I was reaching for. In the past I have also tried watercolor paint and oil paint. I love rich juicy color and watercolor just did not inspire me but I do love oil paint and plan to paint with it more in the near future.
I think this piece, "Awaken" sums up everything about me and my art. I absolutely feel fantastic when I am in the forest. We go up north at least once a year to go on a fishing trip and I usually spend as much time painting and taking photos as I do fishing. It is hard to explain what the forest does to my soul, I feel recharged, energized, and at peace when I am surrounded by trees. I can say it better with paint than with words so I am always in a hurry to get the paint to canvas so I can share this glory with others. The sun rays in the painting are also significant and seen in some of my other pieces. I feel the energy exploding through the trees and it fuels my body with spirit. It feels like Gods gift for me to be able to visualise his presence through the rays and I love to try to reproduce the power of that presence. It is most intriguing to me that in the thick of the forest the rays of the sun sneak through the branches and shine this life giving energy on the very tiny, young plants that seem to have nothing going for them in the crowded tall forest. This is a valuable lesson for me to remember, even the least among us are looked after and nurtured on mother earth. We all get our share of sunshine and glory when the time is right. One of my other pieces of art also relays this message very well, "Resilience". You can find that picture under the heading of "Sold Works" in my web site.
